The family of Dave Zilz has requested that STEM2U Youth Programs offer an opportunity to accept donations in his memory. This is just a partial list of Dave Zilz's 11+ years of volunteer service through robotics and STEM related programs. And though most of these activities were centered around robotics and STEM, Dave Zilz's priority and attention was centered on the individual, young and not-as-young alike.
- FRC 4329, the Lutheran Roboteers - Hosted by the Lutheran High School of St. Charles County (LHS), Dave co-founded the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team 4329 that became the Lutheran Roboteers. Through his exuberance and dedication, the Lutheran Roboteers grew from an off-campus part-time activity with 2 LHS students, to an on-campus year-round activity with a roster of over 40 LHS students and is the cornerstone of the STEM program at LHS.
- STEM2U Youth Programs, 501(c)(3) - Dave Zilz has been the president of STEM2U Youth Programs since he co-founded the non-profit ten years ago. To date, we have been able to offer involvement to the youth programs fee-free because of the generous donations from corporate and other donors, and as a 501(c)(3), STEM2U Youth Programs has provided the way to accept and disperse donations.
- STEM Program at Lutheran High School - Dave Zilz championed the creation of the STEM program at LHS, retiring from Boeing to bring Project Lead the Way (PLTW) engineering programs to LHS. STEM2U Youth Programs was financing vehicle to complete the "Fit and Finish" initiative to complete the new STEM room at LHS. Through his teaching of engineering classes, he inspired future engineers.
- FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Community - Dave Zilz has been an active member of the FIRST community in Missouri, named "Volunteer of the Year" and Woodie Flowers Finalist in 2020. Dave has been a part of, if not outright leading, FIRST activities for FIRST Lego League (FLL), First Tech Challenge (FTC), and for FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). He frequently volunteered as the event coordinator to bring together and coordinate the resources to make the events possible.
STEM2U will carry on his legacy through the continued support of youth STEM programs.
